Thursday, March 26, the Rappahannock High School varsity softball team travelled to Luray and returned victorious.
The Panther defense was anchored by pitcher Lauren Sharp who finished the night with five walks and seven strike outs.
On offense, Sonya Wigington went three for three plus a walk in her four at bats. Emily Taylor, Julie Atkins and Lauren Sharp each had one hit and Tiffany Keys had two.
The Panthers held Luray on defense and won the game 7-6.
Monday night, the Panthers met Strasburg at home. After six hard fought innings, the Panthers put the game away in the bottom of the seventh inning, winning 3-2.
Defensively, pitcher Lauren Sharp had an excellent night throwing no walks and 13 strike outs.
On offense, Meghan Fairbrother and Lauren Sharp each had one hit. Tiffany Keys was credited with a single and a RBI. Julie Atkins had two hits.
Candy Dennis hit a single, and as the last batter in the game, took a powerful swing hitting the ball over left center field to the woods for a gamewinning two run homer.
Coach Carl Payne is pleased with his team’s 2-1 start on the season. “We have strong pitching, batting and defense. We’re hitting the ball and scoring and some of our best hitters haven’t started bitting yet, but they will!”.
The varsity softball team will play their next home ?ame April 6 against Luray at 5 p m.
