wins and losses, but because I had role models who taught me that there is a right and a wrong, and even when things don’t go my way, I still have to finish the game. No, some of these coaches didn’t have a winning record, yet they did accomplish something long lasting and important than winning a ball game. But I guess according to some, they still are not the “best” coaches.
I think a parent has a legitimate concern if their child’s coach is not a good role model and/or is incompetent in his or her knowledge and skills needed for that sport (of course this is one’s opinion). But, this is a personal matter that should be discussed between the parent and the coach.
To my knowledge, there is not a coach on our high school coaching staff who isn’t a good role model for students and/or is incompetent in coaching his or her particular sport. So, as a community, we need to decide how to define the word “best” as it applies to coaching. Is it based on wins and losses? Or, is it based on all the responsibilities that I listed above?
