The Board of Supervisors approved the checks and the meeting came to a conclusion.

Makela

From Page A1

“Frazier is strongly behind vouchers or tax credits for people who put children in the public schools. He is also for tax credit for people that have home schooled children.” Makela’s credentials

Makela has an extensive history in government.

He relates, “I have been in the municipal fire department in Virginia Beach for 15 years. I was a captain there. The management training I received made me aware of government policy which you need to know as a school board member.” ,

“I was the president of the civic league. I have been 30 years with various phases of government. I brought to the board a lot of knowledge in the policy and management area.”

And Makela adds, “I don’t know what kind of knowledge she (Cordani) will bring to the board.”

Makela went on to say that Cordani was nominated and endorsed by a group of people with a personal agenda who wanted to have their influence on the school board.

“Basically, there were two candidates who won campaigning on budget issues. It’s much easier to talk about cutting a budget, but it’s much more difficult when you get in there.”

Makela’s plans

Makela says, “I’m not going to go away. I had attended school board meetings for a year prior to my last election. And I will attend the meetings and be active wherever I can be in the school system.”

Makela will continue to work for a stained glass restoration company in Front Royal, Higgins and Associates. They basically do church windows and Makela does the restoration work for them.
