Michael T. Brown passed the board exam this past spring. Now he is becoming an associate attorney in Washington, Va. at Uouglas Baumgardner’s law office.
The event was marked by a get together on Friday, Nov. 12 at the law office at 211 A Main Street. In attendance were Brown’s wife, Amy, their child, Emily, and Brown’s parents, Sandra and W.C. Brown.
Brown’s association with Baumgardner began when Brown was working for a title company, Cardinal Abstract Co., in Warrenton. Baumgardner used the companies services and worked with Brown. This occurred during the late 1980s and early 1990s. At the title company, Brown was mainly responsible for the title examinations.
In the mid 1990s, Baumgardner needed help with his practice and Brown became his paralegal. A short time later, Brown began studying evenings at George Mason University for his law degree. Brown spent four years working full time as a paralegal and attending night classes.
Brown recalls discussing his goals with classmates, “People I went to school with thought in terms of city law and government practice. When I said, I’m hoping to become an associate in a country practice, they would look at you like you’re from another planet.”
Brown feels that practicing law in this setting will be vastly more interesting, because he will able to practice many different kinds of law.
