Baseball
The varsity baseball team had their district home opener on Friday and went looking for their first Bull Run victory of the new season. It was not to be as the visiting Cougars would spoil the Panther party with a 13 to 2 victory of their own. Junior Brandon Cooper started on the slab for the Rapp side and was pounded for four, first inning runs before being yanked for junior Noah Starks. Starks had a rough couple of innings himself and gave up five runs before senior Jamie Keys came in and calmed things down late in the game.
Several major fielding miscues in the outfield early in the game all but handed the Cougars the tallies necessary to secure their first district win. On the offensive side, the Panther bats were all but silent today until senior Jeff Ritenour drove a two-run, RBI double deep into the left field gap. The seventh inning drive was too little, too late, as the Panthers fell to 0 and 2 in the district standings.
