U14 Rappahannock Hornets! Hit the Ground Swarming The” Hornets,” newly named Rappahannock U-14 Coed Team, kicked off their season away Saturday in Madison. They faced numerous challenges: a biting chilly wind; a first time at game speed; a new mix of players with their chemistry just beginning to develop; an opposing Madison team comprised mostly of 14 year olds, presenting both a size and experience advantage; and some teammates away on the RCHS Panther Band Boondoggle (Great Job in Myrtle Beach Panthers). The Hornets compromised with these challenges by only losing with a score of 8-0.
But in spite of these challenges the Hornet produced some very encouraging outcomes. From the first half to the second half there was a very visible improvement in the chemistry and team dynamics on the field. The Hornets were beginning to swarm, holding Madison to only 3 goals in the second half. The second half displayed the Hornets ability to make adjustments that yielded increased time of possession and more intense defense. The main obstacle facing the Hornets was in the transition game.
