Softball
The reigning single “A” state champion, Lady Panther softball team opened their district home season Friday against last year’s Bull Run District champions, the Lady Cougars from Manassas Park. The game followed a dugout dedication ceremony held on the field (see accompanying article).
After holding the Park girls scoreless in their half of the first inning, the Lady Panthers came to bat. Leading off for the home team was Rapp s All-State catcher, senior Gwen Johnson. Johnson stepped to the plate, looked down for the sign, stepped back in the batters box and promptly drove the first pitch on a line over the left field fence for the first ever out-of-thepark homer hit at these fields. After that, it was all Rapp, as the girls scored in all but one inning and finished the game with their second district win of the season by the score of 7 to 0.
Junior Rachel Sharp gave up two hits in notching her fourth consecutive win and was supported by another great defensive effort from her team
