In Paige Noel’s Shelter Block, students are building a garden shed with the volunteer help and expertise of Sperryville residents Paul Harris and Richard Brown. This course brings together several academic subjects.
Students develop an understanding of the relationship between geography and history and cultural diversity as they learn about how indigenous people built shelters from the different resources at hand (adobe in the desert, ice in the arctic and saplings and bark in the forest regions) and how construction techniques have developed over time.
