William “Yogi” Bear was presented with the George Meany Award, recognizing his significant contributions to the youth of Rappahannock County and the Shenandoah Area through his leadership in the Boy Scout Program. The award is named for the first president of the AFLCIO, who gave strong support to scouting over the years. Mr. Bear was cited for the award by the Illinois State Labor Federation, recognizing his service to the boy scouts during and after his employment with United Airlines and his association with the International Association of Machinists.

Mr. Bear served as Assistant Scoutmaster at Troop 123 from 19761981 and has served as Unit Commissioner for the Shenrapawa District. He currently serves on the Council Executive Board, the Council Eagle Board of Review, and is a member of the Brotherhood of the Order of the Arrow, Shenshawpotoo Lodge. Mr. Bear also serves as Director and President Elect for the Rappahannock Lions Club.
