As President of the
Rappahannock County School Sports Association I would like to respond to Mr. Mark Wallace’s questions and concerns regarding sports in our schools.
First, regarding his concerns on how football relates to the budget, he doesn’t believe $25,000 to start a team is a good figure and that football will squeeze other sports out of the picture. Unfortunately, Mr. Wallace obviously did not attend either of the well publicized informational meetings that our Athletic Director, Jon Smythe and principal, Joe Perine arranged to measure community interest in starting football and to present the audience with the facts regarding start up costs and the long term impact football will have on our athletic program.
