“Our Town” by Thornton Wilder was written in 1938 and will be performed at Rappahannock County High School on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.
The three-act play will last approximately an hour and a half. There will be one ten minute intermission.
The first stage directions of the play are “No set. No curtain.” This play highlights the acting and utilizes the audience’s imagination to create the scenery and props.
It is the story of small town life. Living, loving, raising children, going to church, dreams fulfilled and unfulfilled, birth, marriage, and death. The story is narrated bv a “Stage Manager,” and focuses on the coming of age of George Gibbs and Emily Webb in the town of Grover’s Corners, N.H.
When asked if there is any culture in Grover’s Corners Mr. Webb says, “....we’ve got a lot of pleasures of a kind here: we like the sun coinin’ up over the mountain...and we all notice a good deal about the birds. We pay a lot of attention to them. And we watch the change of seasons. Yes, everyone knows about them."
Mrs. Miranda Hope is the director of “Our Town”. Mrs. Hope has taught drama at RCHS and Hearthstone for two years and has an MFA in acting from Columbia University.
