“My brother (who currently rides as a professional in France) picked him out of a steeplechase in France for us,” said Hobson, who at age 35 is now based in Middleburg. “The horse is very well bred,” sired by leading French jumps stallion Cadoudal, and “he’d won over hurdles and over ‘chase fences. He had some form in France, but hadn’t showm it yet here.”
Hobson rated the gray gelding, which he also trains, off the early pace of rival Class Canoe. When that one faded at the 10th of 13 hurdles, Hobson gathered Royal Manhattan.
