A motion “to support football at Rappahannock County schools to include, for the school years 02-03. support for transportation, and it will be annually reviewed as are all other sports programs” was passed by the School Board on a 3-1-1 vote at the Board’s May 14 meeting. This motion, an amended version of that forwarded by Aline Johnson and seconded by Rose Ann Sharp, came at the conclusion of more than thirty minutes of discussion.

The “aye” votes were Piedmont School Board member Johnson. Hampton representative Sharp, and Chairman Wesley Mills, the lone “nay” vote was Wakefield's Rosa Crocker, and the abstention, a “present” vote, was StonewallHawthorne representative Franklin Warner.

Mr. Warner had earlier forwarded a motion “to support football in Rappahannock County schools,” and added that he was forwarding the motion on the “personal basis” that football is self-sustaining in
