ball program. Mr. Warner withdrew his motion and refused to vote affirmatively for the revised motion subsequently forwarded by Mrs. Johnson. Mr. Warner said that he could not vote for a motion that did not include “conditions."
Ms. Crocker has maintained her earlier position that a football program, or any new initiative, could prove harmful to existing programs if not properly funded, and she noted that she has received more comment on the issue of football than on any other, and that all but one had reservations. "People," she said, “don't want up-and-runmng programs subsumed by anything new . . Ms. Crocker added ^iat she “doesn't react w'ell to hype,” but said that she could support the program only if it did not cost the school system, and other existing programs. any money. She said that she could not support Mr. Warner’s motion because she felt it wraS not possible for the program to become selfsustaining in that period, and she voted against Mrs. Johnson’s final motion as well. 1
Mr. Mills said that he “believed the empirical data” on the self-sustainability of a football program presented by Mr. Smythe and others, and he suggested that the Program and Planning Committee should "investigate how to pull the program into the school system."
