Laurie Marshall, author of the “Singing Tree:” mural project, returned to the project's roots in Rappahannock County recently in the continuing process of project development and dissemination. Ms. Marshall brought with her a team of student videographers from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, and that crewspent several hours interviewing some of the Rappahannock High School students and the Hearthstone students who participated in the creation of the initial Singing Tree mural.
Becky Paxton, Ken Presutti, and Lori Walsh are television production students at Robert Morris, and they have assumed the task of producing a Singing Tree promotional video as their class project. These three sophomores have all been much taken with Ms. Marshall and with the project concept, and have been documenting the project’s evolution.
The project began last year when Laurie Marshall was an art teacher at Rappahannock County High School, and it was based upon the question posed by ten-year-old Meredith Miller of the Hillsboro ElementarySchool in Loudoun County— What if all the children of the world made a painting together?
