Laurie Marshall
Ms. Marshall designed an image for a mural based upon the book, “The Singing Tree,” by Kate Seredv, that tells the story of a lone tree that became a refuge for all species of birds on an otherwise denuded World War I battlefield, and that served to speak to the soldiers of the goodness and abundance of Nature.
The goals of that mural project, said Ms. Marshall at that time, were “to promote an understanding of that which unites the young people of Rappahannock; to increase young people’s feeling of belonging and purpose; to use an historical story as the basis of an artwork ... and to have Rappahannock teens take a leadership position in producing an original work of art that will hopefully inspire others."
