A bomb threat was called into Rappahannock County High School on the morning of February 23. By 10:45, after being discovered on the school’s voice mail, school officials had notified authorities.
With procedures developed last November in the event of a crisis situation such as a bomb threat, the school was swiftly evacuated.
“During the drill the students were very well behaved,” said school principal Roger Mello.
The Sheriff's office was immediately contacted and together with the Virginia State Police and Culpeper police converged upon the site with bomb sniffing dogs.
“We appreciate that the Sheriff’s Office was so quick in responding,” said superintendent of schools Bob Chappell. “It enabled them to start an investigation and secure the building.”
Chappell went on to say that the Sheriff’s Office was able to learn pertinent facts in a matter of minutes which contributed to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
