In that regional tournament, held last week, Musterman secured the first-place position.
As the whistle blew, Allen fought to avoid the takedown by Musterman, which finally occurred at the end of the first period.
However, Allen quickly reversed, tying the score 2-2.
With Rappahannock County high school coaches Eric. Spath and Nick Prieto in the comer calling out moves, the match ended in a close minor decision, 4-3.
“It’s excellent,” Spath said following the match. “Dos has worked so hard this year.”
As for Allen, the loss was not a difficult one since he has one. more year of competition ahead of him.
“This is a good step toward next year,” he beamed.
The road to finals was not an easy one for Allen as he had to face district rival Billy Crouse of Clarke County in the semi-final round, an opponent Allen had never beaten before.
Allen was determined, however, dominating the match for an 8-2 victory.
Upon winning that match, Allen sighed. “It feels awesome to win this, and now I have a buddy.”
The “buddy” he referred to is Rapp’s Alex Sharp who competed in the 135 pound division.
