Therefore, Ibwn Council has made this application to the DEQ, the first step toward preliminary decisions to find remedies for the town residents ongoing sewage problems.
According to the letter, the DEQ will review the application and may draft a permit for discharge(s).
Upon a draft permit being issued, a public notice will be made in the Rappahannock News, announcing the intent to issue a permit.
At the same time, the public will be invited to a public comment forum, which will be open for 30 days.
Spealdng in opposition to a waste water facility discharge into the Rush River at the Board of Supervisor’s meeting was Jonas Jenkins of Washington.
Jenkins voiced his concerns. “Here we are expecting farmers to keep their cattle out of the waterways and now they want to dump waste into it. It doesn’t make sense.”
Members of the board advised that there is not currently any action pending with the county on this issue, that they have simply received this letter from the DEQ.
