Farm to Table
Of all the work done at Sunnyside Farms, Waldo is most proud of the ‘Farm to Table’ program and the Earth University Intern program.
With the Tarm to Table’ program, which was developed in 2003 by Sunnyside Institute’s Janet Davis and Headwaters’ Amy Silver, agricultural educators work with students from Rappahannock County High School each Tuesday.
This work is designed to give students a hands-on education of farming—teaching them where food comes from and how to safely handle food.
“The program is great,” said Waldo, “We benefit from the kids being there and they benefit from our farm.”
The produce raised by the students is donated to the Culinary Arts class at the high school, where the teacher, Mary Arthur assists students to prepare food, which is delivered for the “meals-on-wheels” program.
