The Rappahannock County School Board gathered on Tuesday evening for their monthly meeting.
Graduation
slated for June 10
Altering the calendar for the 2005-2006 school year was one of the topics of discussion. Superintendent of schools Bob Chappell recommended that spring break be shortened by three days, allowing for school to commence earlier and graduation to take place June 10.
However, an event that could warrant a change in graduation would be if one of the RCHS teams made it to state finals, which also take place June 10. Chappell suggested that when graduation invitations are sent out a note will be inserted stating that should a team make it to finals, graduation will be moved to the afternoon of June 11.
While there was some concern about friends and family making traveling plans, and about the fact that the school will not know if they have to make the change until the evening of June 9, the board unanimously voted to accept the changes.
Earlier schedules
Another topic of interest was a report given by Roger Mello, principal of Rappahannock high school, on the Programs of Study in which he informed the board that he hoped to get schedules for the upcoming school year into students’ hands as early as possible.
Mello then went on to illustrate the process of compiling schedules to the board. The school’s guidance counselors hold assemblies with students according to grade levels in which they discuss graduation requirements for different diplomas. Students are then given course selection sheets which
