Farms is to have landowners who they rent pasture land from also incorporate the organic techniques.

“If the landowners (we rent from) are interested in converting their farmland to organic farming,” Waldo said, “we want to join in on that effort.” Pesticides vs. natural

pest management

While pesticides have been used in farming for generations, recent studies ha,ve shown links between the use of these chemicals and considerable health issues.

It is necessary for pesticides to be toxic if they are going to kill pests on produce. According to information being gathered at Cornell University, research is ongoing to determine just how much pesticide is considered “safe” for human consumption.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, World Health Organization has done considerable studies since 1993, showing that pesticides can permanently damage the human endocrine, reproductive and central nervous systems.

Organic proponents believe that pests are attracted to inferior or weak plants, which is a result of poor crop nutrition, according to the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service.

The service proposes that pests are naturally repelled by well-nourished plants, although this has not been confirmed by research.

Therefore, organic farmers have resolved to maintain the ecological balance of the farming area.
