While most residents of Rappahannock County know they can find organic products at Sunnyside Market in Washington as well as at Sunnyside Farms Famous Rest Stop in Sperryville, Va., the 450 acre farm itself has kept a low profile.
David Cole, owner of Sunnyside Farms Institute, had a vision to establish a farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge nine years ago, proposing sustainable agriculture as not only a business, but as an educational process for the county.
At present, this farm produces beef, chicken, and a range of vegetables and fruits. All of the products are sold “locally,” which includes the northern Virginia area.
