When the Rappahannock County Public Schools’ grantwriting team decided to apply for the federal government’s Carol White Physical Education Program grant it was hoped that such a grant would enable the system to create an enthusiasm for fitness among students, employees, and community members.

Following the 2003 approval of the grant, the schools purchased $135,000 of fitness equipment to stock the newly conceived “Rappfitness” Center at RCHS. The Center which features aerobic exercise equipment, free weights, universal machines, and a climbing wall opened on June 1, 2004.

The first mission of the PEP grant was to enable Rappahannock students to become physically fit and maintain sound fitness habits into their adult years.
