This would enable conservation dollars to buy more, and gives every landowner a reason to at least consider a sale for conservation, rather than for development. The land would have to be held for conservation purposes, and couldn’t later be sold for development without severe penalties.

The American Farm Bureau Federation has written a letter in support of the President’s capital gains tax cut proposal, and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association has written in support of a variant of both the capital gains cut and the deduction increase, in which sales or donations to the federal government do not benefit from these incentives.
