Mississippi after Katrina destroyed the Armed Forces Home there. The veterans, and some 40 employees of the home, were suddenly relocated to the Washington, D. C. facility just days after Katrina hit. Veterans and employees alike had lost their homes and most of their belongings.
The contribution to the welfare of the relocated veterans on the part of the D. A. R. women is, to Director Laub, part of what he called “an enormous outpouring of emotion and gratitude from the community at large because of these folks who defended America.”
For Cathy Champigny, the support for retired veterans is an essential part of her life. Cathy was in the U S. Navy; her parents and brother were military, as was her husband. She has a special reverence for the older folks, men and women, of the uniformed services. Her effort to gather and deliver these funds will by no means be her last on behalf of those who gave so much to America.
