Rappahannock this is an excellent resource for children. More than 150 students use the facility individually or as members of teams after school hours. At least ten recent graduates come by after work or during college holidays to use the center.
Employees
weighing in
The second mission of the PEP grant program was to promote fitness among employees. Full-time school and Rappahannock County employees may use the center at no charge. At least 60 of more than 200 eligible employees use the center. Rapp-fitness attendants report they have observed a lot of enthusiasm on the part of employees to participate in fitness activities either outdoors or in the center.
Community
crunch time
The third mission of the grant was to involve the community in the use of the center. When the center opened in June 2004 a publicity campaign touted the availability of the new “Rapp-Fitness” center to community members. The community responded enthusiastically to this opportunity and hundreds of community members joined the fitness club.
Discounted rates were set to encourage senior citizens, local fire / rescue volunteers, part-time school and county employees, and state employees working in Rappahannock County to take advantage of the fitness center. The center is staffed by an adult supervisor who insures that members utilize the facility in a safe manner.
Community members who had been driving to fitness facilities in towns 25 miles away are now able to complete exercise or rehabilitation programs close to home. By doing so, they save transportation costs, time, and pay lower fees. The center does not provide training advice and does not promote personal trainers, but members may bring their own personal trainer if the trainer is a member of the center.
