win-win situation

The Rapp-fitness Center also serves the many adults who do not have children of school age, giving them a tangible benefit for their support of the school system. Many community members who had never been to RCHS now visit regularly to make use of the fitness facility. It is not uncommon to see fitness center members remaining at the school after working out to watch ball games, plays, concerts and other activities in which students are involved.

There are clear indications that the changes brought about through the opening of the Rapp-fitness Center will have a long-lasting impact. The active member roster is increasing. More students are using the center after school. They exhibit great pride in the fact that their little school has a facility as complete as the “RappFitness” Center. A generation of Rappahannock students is learning the importance of regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle. They will leave high school with a wellestablished routine of working out to remain physically fit. They have learned that in Rappahannock it has become “cool” to exercise. Teachers and aides in the school system help staff the center and clean the equipment. Community members demonstrate their ownership of the program by donating supplies the center needs.

The Rappahannock County Public School system has enthusiastically embraced its role as a center of fitness opportunities for students, staff, and community members alike. The Carol White PEP grant program plus community participation and support have made this possible.

The club has regular hours from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and is open year-round. Saturday hours are under consideration.
