Center kicks off 2006

Workshop Series: Recruiting and

Retaining Volunteers

Who: The Rappahannock Nonprofit Center

What: Workshop on Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers

When: January 24, 1:00 until 5:00

Where: Rappahannock Public Library

Jill Skelton, Director of the Piedmont Volunteer Center will lead the four hour workshop. Jill explains that, “during the workshop we will discuss the nature of volunteering; present a profile of today’s volunteers, consider what motivates people to volunteer and the benefits of volunteering to both the community and to individuals. We will then look at the characteristics of successful volunteer programs, focusing on the development of recruitment strategies’and the effective incorporation of volunteers as valuable members of participant organizations.”

RNPC Executive Director Bridget Chisholm said, “When RNPC conducted a stake holders in Rappahannock County over 40 groups came and one of their top five requests was that volunteerism be addressed at one of our workshops. We are very pleased to be able to meet that request.”

Workshop number two in 2006 is Quick Book Pro for Nonprofits. It will take place the last four Thursdays in March. RNPC is working with Lord Fairfax Community College to bring this workshop to the county. Other workshops are in the pre-planning stages such as strategic planning, board best practices and public speaking.

Ms. Chisholm said that “RNPC was very busy at the close of 2005 and it doesn’t look like things will be slowing down in 2006”.
