After a fourteen year process involving identifying the need, drawing up plans, paperwork, raising funds, obtaining permits, and finally construction, the new addition of the Amissville United Methodist Church was finally completed in October.
A service to consecrate the new addition to God’s work was held on Oct. 30. United Methodist District Superintendent Dr. Brenda Byler and church pastor Rev. Ned Van Dyck officiated.
The addition consists of two new classrooms and a new kitchen and expanded social hall. The entire Sunday School wing was given a new metal roof to match the roof on the sanctuary.
The hall and kitchen were immediately put to good use for the Amissville United Methodist Women’s 25th annual holiday bazaar held in November. The bazaar was a big success and raised approximately $4,000. All of the money is used by the women for mission work, from the local to international level.
The new classroom space will allow for the development of a brand new class, as well as dividing up the infants from the preschoolers into two separate rooms. This especially was important for the new families with small children that are continuing to join our congregation.
