Women of Rappahannock County, members of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, joined others in the historic organization in helping military retirees displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
The money donated by Mrs. Lucia Kilby, Mrs. Edna Metzsinger and Ms. Maggie Francis of Sperryville and other Rappahannock women, joined with donations of neighboring D.A.R, chapters, was given to a fund for the veterans. Cathy Champigny of Culpeper, a member of the Minute Men Chapter, presented a check for $310.00 to Ben Laub, Director of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D C.
Cathy and others had collected the funds at a special luncheon of the D A.R. The women at the lunch had been told the story of 416 veterans, most of them retired Navy, most - but not all - men, who had been bused from Gulfport,
