voted on resolutions. WCDS’s Amir Arsalpn drafted a resolution on the question of Kashmir, obtained the requisite number of signatures in support of it and eventually had his resolution accepted by the Approval Panel.
During their stay, the students were invited to visit the United States Embassy in Dublin, where they were hosted by Jonathan Benton, the Deputy Chief of Mission. Mr. Benton gave a briefing about US-Ireland relations, the nature of diplomacy, life as a diplomat, and the inner workings of the Embassy.
Three of the Wakefield students: Cat Tbth, Saawan Mehta, and Amir Arsalan had the added experience of staying in Dublin with local families rather than at the host hotel, thereby fully immersing themselves in Irish culture and customs.
Following the conference, the group enjoyed touring the cities of Galway and Kilkenny. The entire experience was made possible by fund-raising throughout the year, which included weekly breakfast bake sales and several car washes, supplemented by contributions by all the student participants. The team was chaperoned by Douglas Weaver, who teaches a number of history courses at WCDS. Mr. Weaver was pleased with his group’s performance, noting, “Model UN is beneficial to the students on many different levels”
