Cinco de Mayo but the festive atmosphere remained and I was forced to have a Cadillac Margarita with my chili relleno.
The scenery was grand as the outside deck overlooked the Columbia. The waiter called me “senorita” instead of “senora” which brought a smile to my face and fueled my independent spirit and smugness that I was indeed alone but not lonely at all.
The look on my sister’s face was priceless as she realized that it wasn’t the Twilight Zone but actually her sister that appeared alongside her paintings. “But you don’t have time,” she blurted out, “how did you do this?”
“I couldn’t miss this,” I said, “I’ve taken a vacation and left my young writer in charge.”
I strolled past her paintings...Multnomah Falls, Horsethief Butte, Rooster Rock, the paper factory near Cascade Locks, all haunts familiar to me.
