May 27, 1976 Mrs. J.M Lillard holds a balloon which landed in her yard Wednesday morning. “It frightened me,” she said. “I thought it was a bomb t * something until I read the card attached.” The balloon had been released by students at the Pearl Sample Elementary School in Culpeper and the card requested a reply to them if and when it was found. Mrs. Lillard complied after she recovered from her excitement.

May 26, 1966 The 50th anniversary of Pulitzer Prize awards was marked recently in New York with a dinner at the Plaza Hotel for present and past winners. It was the first gathering of its kind since the prizes were initiated. About half of the nation’s 300 living Pulitzer Prize winners were present at the gala dinner, and were saluted by Grayson Kirk, president of Columbia University as men and women who had been selected over the nation in the fields of journalism, literature and music. Mr and Mrs. Edward A. Harris of Rappahannock County attended the dinner. Mr. Harris won the Pulitzer Prize in 1946 for distinguished national correspondence while a correspondent for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.The award was
