Everything went right Tuesday afternoon for the Rappahannock County High School varsity baseball team.
“There were runs. There were hits. There were stolen bases,” Panthers head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We played very well.”
Rappahannock County pounded out nine hits to support an outstanding pitching performance from junior lefthander Ethan Russell in upending Manassas Park, 9-1, in the opening round of the Group A Bull Run District tournament.
The win pushed the Panthers into the semifinals of the tournament. They were scheduled to play second-seeded Strasburg Wednesday afternoon. The Rams defeated the Panthers twice during the regular season by 4-3 scores.
Results from Wednesday’s game were unavailable at press time.
The district tournament final is set for Friday, most likely at top-seeded George Mason.
