This issue is complicated, further because parts of the Rush have already been designated as impaired by DEQ. The affected portion is actually upstream of Washington*, and is designated impaired because of overly high concentrations of fecal coliform bacteria, which is present in the waste of all living things. In this case, the bacteria are believed to have come from farm animals upstream of the affected portion. Runoff from the town’s fading septic systems may also already be polluting the Rush.
