From year to year, it’s been said, for a simple good reason for all of us: It’s the enduring truth. Let’s be careful out there. On Memorial Day weekend we should remember the dead and help prevent further loss. Buckle up and eiyoy the long awaited weekend?

And remember, if you do forget to buckle up, the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office will be out in hall force to remind you as the county’s “Click-It-Or-Ticket” program begins Friday with law enforcement at increased levels throughout the weekend.

Memorial Day is not limited to honor only those Americans from the armed forces. It is also a day for personal remembrance. Families and individuals honor the memories of their loved ones who have died. Church services, visits to the cemetery, flowers on graves or even silent tribute mark the day with dignity and solemnity. It is a day of reflection. Let’s remember while we mourn the fallen, we cannot forget the many soldiers from other wars, like Vietnam, that are imprisoned or still listed as missing in action.

Let’s join hands on Memorial Day to pay tribute to these soldiers with our family and loved ones and friends.

This is a very special day.

However, to many, the day also signals the beginning of summer with a three-day weekend to spend at the beach, in the mountains or at home relaxing.

Happy Memorial Day to all readers!
