Brown won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches. Her win also allowed her to avenge an earlier season loss to Manassas Park junior Shanique Grigsby. Grigsby finished sixth, clearing 4-6. She beat Brown in late April at the Wrangler Invitational in Luray.
Rappahannock County’s school record in the high jump is 5-2.
Brown, with her win, will participate in Friday’s Region B meet at Monticello High School near Charlottesville. The top six finishers in the district meet qualified, for regionals.
The Panthers have several student-athletes competing in the regional meet.
Senior Chris Harris will be busy at the regional meet. He qualified in the 200-meter dash with a fifth-place finish of 24.1, a sixth-place finish of 12.32 seconds in the 100 and as a member of the 4 X 100meter relay team. Jesse Palmer, Irving Smith and Josh Makela are also members of that relay team that finished third with a time of 47.04.
Makela took fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:21.
On the girls’ side, senior Victoria Hart qualified for the regional meet with a time of 14.93 in the 100-ineter dash. She finished sixth.
