The dog warden left and about an hour later into the meeting Fisher arrived. He told the supervisors that he’d left his job early Friday morning. Dr. Graves diagnosed the condition as a vitamin deficiency, gave the cow injections and said she had a good chance if food and water could be kept in her and if she could be gotten back on her feet.
Attacked By Beagles
Fisher said he stayed with the sick animal all day but had to go into town Saturday and so asked his neighbor to help. Beagles attacked the cow in the late afternoon and did considerable damage since she couldn’t defend herself. Fisher said.
”lt was senseless to leave the cow there suffering so 1 pirt her away arid called Mr. Bruce." Fisher said. He estimated the dead cows weight at between 600 and 800 pounds and noted that the vet had confirmed she was in calf. “Once the dogs got to her, it kind of eliminated much chance of saving her," Fisher concluded.
"Have you seen the dogs since?" asked supervisor H. B. Wood.
“There are lots of beagles up in that hollow—15 to 20 at any one time. 1 couldn't put my finer on the beagle who did it,” answered Fisher.
“That was a pretty sick cow if a beagle did that to her," interjected supervisor
