Snow Forecast
Back to our rooms a little before ten, the kids were quieter. A half hour after lights out, all but a few were asleep. Chaperones and teachers had huddled around the TV for the news finals, eager to hear the latest on the weather forecast that predicted snow and freezing rain for the morning.
My first move after crawling from bed Sunday was to reach for the indoor shutters. The relief at seeing the same old shades of pine green_ and _idead-leaf-brown was almost overwhelming. The kids may have been thrilled at the prospects of being snowed in at Williamsburg but I wasn’t. I was psyched up for only three days of chaperoning. When we first 'heard the forecast. Bob Dennis and I had kiddingly laid plans to rent a car and flee back to Rappahannock rather than face being snowbound with 70 seventh graders.
When we left after breakfast for Jamestown, everyone had one eye on the clouds massing overhead. But by the time we reached the site of the original settlement, the sky was blue again and worry about the snow called for by afternoon faded away.
