Another hazard has popped up here in Richmond. It’s called "Joggernauts" and they are all over the place. (I guess 1 could leave the letter ‘a’ out of this word.) They are up early in the morning and late in the evening. There is a Senator here who is up early jogging and when he finishes he stands out in the cold drinking hot coffee. After this he showers, eats breakfast and gets in his car, then rides one mile to work.
The hazard part is when you are walking to work you never know when one of them will come flying around a corner and flatten you. I sure would hate to have my epitaph read. “Here lies George, puzzled and fraught, he was run over by a Joggernaut”.
We had a five hour public hearing yesterday on increasing the tobacco tax and removing the food tax. It looks as if this is going to be a put and take session. Put a tax on here and take off a tax there.
Delegate Quillen requested a 2 cent tax on tobacco for school purposes for Scott and Lee Counties. The tax in the three tobacco growing states is. North Carolina two cents, Virginia two and one-half cents, and Kentucky three cents.
