He noted that both the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the National Shooting and Sports Foundation support ordinances like those proposed for Rappahannock. Both organizations, said Bird, believe that a motor vehicle is no place for a loaded firearm.
Bird reported that preliminary indications from Fauquier, Loudoun and Culpeper are that similar ordinances there have been effective in combating illegal road hunting. He added that the regulations must be enacted by the supervisors in time to notify the Virginia Game Commission by May 1 in order for the ordinances to take effect during the 1980 hunting season.
