The Rappahannock Sheriffs department may soon be writing traffic violations under county rather than state ordinances with the fines reverting to local coffers. And. if the supervisors approve the department’s 1980-81 budget requests, the deputies will be writing the tickets in countyowned police cruisers.
At Thursday’s board meeting. Sheriff W. A. Buntin asked the supervisors to authorize Commonwealth’s Attorney Douglas Baumgardner “to draw up county ordinances for traffic violations and other criminal charges we encounter regularly. " According to Buntin. district court clerk Ruth Blackwell estimated that revenue derived from this source will total approximately $7,000 a year.
