the kids were relatively quiet during the last ride, giving teachers and chaperones time to nap or read the Sunday paper. The activity chosen seemed to bear a direct relationship to the number of cups of coffee consumed.

Arriving back at the elementary school, most of us were basking on a rosy glow. The chaperones—Aney Massie, Cheryl Ritchie, Arlene Frye, Bob Dennis, Roland Fontaine, Earl Jewell and myself—congratulated seventh grade teachers Lynne Baines, Susan Henry and Becky Hawkins and each other on the exemplary conduct of our young charges.
