ENERGY TAX CREDIT
Home owners can get federal income tax credit for insulation and other expenditures that reduce energy consumption in the home.
The credit applies to:
—'insulation for ceilings, walls, floors, roofs and water heaters.
—exterior storm doors and windows.
—weatherstripping or caulking of exterior doors and windows.
—a more energy efficient replacement furnace burner. —devices for modifying flue openings to increase energy efficiency. —a mechanical or electrical furnace ignition system to replace a gas pilot light. —energy usage display meters. —an automatic energysaving setback thermostat. Items that do not qualify are: wood stoves, drapes, carpeting, wood paneling, heat pumps, exterior siding, fireplaces and glass fireplace enclosures. The credit is 15 percent of the first $2,000 of qualified expenses, not to exceed $300.
