Free assistance in preparing federal and state income tax returns will be available for area residents.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is sponsored in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, tax and accounting students of Lord Fairfax Community College, Phi Beta Lambda Business Organization and the local chapter of the National Accounting Association. The VITA program is designed to aid those with relatively simple tax returns while giving students practical experience to compliment their educational program.
VITA assistance will be offered at Lord Fairfax Community College on March 1, March 15, and April 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Professor Gary Jusing, local coordinator of the VITA program at Lojd Fairfax noted that taxpayers needing assistance should bring their tax packages that they received from the Internal Revenue Service and all statements such as W-2’s, interest statements, a copy of their 1978 return if possible, and all other pertinent tax documents.
This service is designed to aid the elderly and those with relatively low income. Business returns will not be given assistance.
