Vuxton and Lambelet work out of offices at FORE in Remington, a sheltered workshop and training center for the handicapped that serves the RappahannockRapidan planning district area. But Vuxton noted that PWI’s program here will take in handicapped citizens from Rappahannock only, with job placement restricted to incounty employers.
Training Funds Available
Vuxton is looking for jobs with farmers, orchardists, plumbers, electricians and carpenters, and positions as sales clerks, gas station attendants and custodians, just to cite a few examples.
In certain circumstances, the PWL coordinator can arrange for job training funds from the state which will pay up to half the handicapped persons’ wages for a specified period of time. For instance, the state will pay for half the first 1,500 hours for a wood shop trainee. Vuxton reported.
