Camp Hoover, the former Presidential retreat in Shenandoah National Park, will be open to the public August 8 and 9. The Camp buildings, which are normally reserved for VIP accommodations, will be open both days. Free bus transportation, building tours, and guided hikes will be offered.
Park Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen announced that this will be the eighth annual celebration of ‘‘Hoover Days.” The event has been scheduled each year on the weekend closest to the former President’s birthday. ‘‘We hope that visitors will take this opportunity to see one of the most interesting and beautiful sites in the Park,” said Jacobsen.
Buses will be available to transport visitors to the Camp from Byrd Visitor Center at Big Meadows, Milepost 51 on Skyline Drive. Trips will begin approximately every half hour
