Tom has also built the graceful stone walls that surround the property, a stone pond in the front yard and the stone garage next to the house, all from native rock.
It was this native rock, a giant boulder smack in the middle of the area the Pillars had selected as their garden spot, that started Tom on his quest for Indian relics.
The big stone wouldn’t yield to picks and shovels so dynamite was brought in. The stone went up and a rain of arrowheads came down, according to Ruth. There must have been a cache of arrowheads underneath,” she said.
As the garden spot was worked and plowed and the ground turned over, every down pour uncovered more of the Indian relics. The family horse helped too, according to Ruth. The clipclop of hoofs knocked away' dirt and bared arrowheads on the well-beaten trails through the Pillar’s pasture.
“This was an ideal campsite,” Tom said in explanation of the hundreds of arrowheads he has found on his land. “There’s a river running around it for protection, the mountains for protection, plenty of fish and game.”
