“The cafeteria will seat between 80 and 90 sardines at one sitting...There’s no place for a sick student to lie down until his parents get here to pick him up except in the middle of the classroom,” he said, pointing to the bed pushed up against the wall in the center of the home ec class.
The high school's shortcomings have been brought to the attention of the school board many times with no results, Kilpatrick said. And although the elementary school is in much better shape, it also suffers inordinately because of space demands created by new mandated special education class courses, provision of kindergarten and storage of audio-visual equipment used 10 times as much now as when the school was built, he added.
